StoneRidge Builders is very conscious of the impact that new home construction
has on our planet. That is why we offer what we like to call “shades of green”
in an effort to reduce the ecological footprint that we leave with each
project. The best part of building green with StoneRidge, is the cost. Our
standard green package only increases cost by 2-5% for the average home.
We start by building your home as Energy Star certified, ensuring that you will
be comfortable in both hot and cold weather without using large amounts of
energy. (All of our homes are Energy Star certified). We can then include the
following specifications as part of our standard green home package.
Standard Green Package
- Low impact site design that protects native habitat and
natural resources
- Sun tempered house orientation, window placement, and
overhang design provides for solar assisted heating and cooling
- Advanced framing techniques and open web floor trusses use fewer materials while
maintaining maximum structural integrity
- Energy Star certification saving a
minimum of 15% of heating and cooling costs over standard energy code
specifications
- High efficiency heating systems, fixtures and appliances use
less energy to operate
- Green certified carpet tiles, wood floors, and
ceramic tiles contain recycled content and offer highly renewable and
sustainable options
- Low or no VOC paints, finishes, and adhesives and no
added formaldehyde wall, floor, and ceiling sheathing and insulation are used
to improve your indoor air quality
- Wood products are purchased from vendors
that practice sustainable forestry ensuring that wood will remain a truly
renewable resource
- Framing lumber is harvested from eastern forests reducing
the embodied energy it takes to ship the lumber to the site
- Special moisture
management techniques that reduce mold growth start at your foundation with a
special 3 part waterproofing and insulating process that guarantees a dry and
conditioned basement
- A comprehensive home “manual” explaining all of the
green aspects of your new home and includes an inventory of the native
vegetation found on your property

- Solar
electricity and hot water systems that can reduce or eliminate your dependency
on grid supplied electricity
- Natural clay plaster walls instead of gypsum
